YOU'LL FIND OUT (1940/RKO.) 97mins. BW. US. Aka: THE OLD PROFESSOR. Credits: Dir. & Prod: David Butler; Sc: James V. Kern, Mon te Brice, Andrew Bennison & R.T.M. Scott; Ph: Frank Redman; Ed: Irene Morra; Art: Van Nest Polglase & Carroll Clark; Sets: Darrell Silvera; Sfx: Vernon L. Walker; Songs: James McHugh & Johnny Mercer; Mus: Roy Webb & George Duning. From a story by James V. Kern & David Butler. Cast: Kay Kysear, Peter Lorre, Boris Karloff, Bela Lugosi, Helen Parrish, Dennis O'Keefe, Alma Kruger, Ginny Simms, Harry Babbitt, Ish Kabibble, Sully Mason, Joseph Eggenton. "The Big Melody, mirth and mystery show!" Kay Kyser's band, "The College of Musical Knowledge", are invited to perform at a girl's, (Parrish), twenty first birthday, but also at the party are some villains who intend to defraud the girl and her mother of their inheritance. Professor Fenninger, (Lorre) , convinces them that Prince Saliano, (Lugosi), is a great medium and Judge Mainwaring, (Karloff), pretends to be the ghost of the girl's dead father during a seance. Kyser and his band members expose the villains who are blown up by a stick of dynamite. A pitiful, wafer thin plot that wastes the talents of three horror stars. Although this was designed to be a comedy vehicle for popular bandleader Kyser, the film raises no more than an embarrassed chuckle. Kay Kyser later became a Christian Scientist. YOUNG DIANA (1922/Cosmopolitan/Paramount)

A sound version of F.W. Murnau's
Nosferatu: Eine Symphonie des Grauens (1922), almost certainly
made without Murnau's knowledge. The characters are given new names with Count Orlok
becoming Furst Wollkoff, and the character of a young priest is added played by Hans Behal
in a Mass for the Dead sequence that was later cut due to interference from censors who
objected to the religious implications. Lotte Eisner in her biography on Murnau states that this artistic adaptation must have come from an original negative of NOSFERATU and some unused footage from Prana Film.
